Are you thinking of living in Japan to enjoy the culture in Japan or for work purposes? The most famous place in Japan is Tokyo, but it is expensive to rent an apartment in Tokyo as you know. Many Japanese commute from other prefectures around Tokyo for work actually. It might be a good idea to know the range in costs. Let’s check what prefectures are around Tokyo before talking about the cost.
Where is Tokyo? Here is the map of Japan. The red area is Tokyo and sky blue areas are prefectures around Tokyo. If you would like to know more about the Geography Information of Japan, visit Here
Prefectures around Tokyo include Kanagawa, Saitama, Chiba, Ibaraki, and Yamanashi. Most people commute from these prefectures (some commute from another state using Shinkansen…)
I researched how much does it costs to rent a room using HOME ADPARK. The cost below is the average, so there are rooms that are higher and lower in cost available for rent in those prefectures and Tokyo. The most expensive area to live is in the Tokyo special wards. Others are similar in price. Basically, the monthly fee for rooms are cheaper if it is further from the Tokyo area and train stations.
If you are planning to come to live in Japan, I recommend that you find a house not far from a train station. Living around a train station is really convenient! If it is not really in the countryside, there should be many nearby stores. You will not need to spend so much time going shopping!
